The Hunter Valley Research Foundation (HVRF) has released results their 2012 survey about Hunter resident and business use of information and communication technology.
The survey shows Hunter residents are increasingly conducting many activities online such as: purchasing goods and services, personal banking, downloading of movies and music, social networking and paying bills.
Popular activities:
- 79% purchased goods and services
- 76% conducted personal banking
- 75% paid bills online
- 60% engaged in online social networking
Unfortunately, the HVRF business survey reveals that Hunter businesses are not embracing the digital economy with rates of taking orders via the internet remaining very low. More disturbing is the high number of businesses with no website.
- 25% of businesses take orders for their goods and services via the internet
- 9.3 per cent of Hunter businesses surveyed had no computer or no internet access
- 42.7% of businesses had no website
The HVRF full report, Information and Communication Technology use in the Hunter, will be available for download from http://www.hvrf.com.au.
