5:15 PM: Cleveland Browns coach Pat Shurmur announces that Brandon Weeden will be the starting QB to begin the season over Colt McCoy.

5:00 PM: UConn men's basketball coach Jim Calhoun says he will be leaving the hospital on Tuesday after undergoing surgery on a fractured hip. Calhoun suffered the injury when he fell off his bike Saturday.

4:45 PM: Tampa Bay Rays third baseman Evan Longoria will be taken off the DL & activated for Tuesday's game against the Toronto Blue Jays.

4:30 PM: Utah Jazz general manager Kevin O'Connor is reportedly moving to a new top executive position with the team & will lead the search for a new GM.

4:15 PM: The Florida Times Union reports Jacksonville Jaguars first round draft pick Justin Blackmon has agreed to a four-year, $19.5 million contract.

4:00 PM: ESPN's Don Van Natta Jr. reports at least two Penn State Board of Trustees members are filing an appeal with the NCAA over sanctions handed down for the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse scandal. The trustees are also planning to file a federal lawsuit to get the sanctions overturned.

3:45 PM: MLB denied the Angels' protest of Friday's 8-6 loss to the Chicago White Sox. The Angels protested over Paul Konerko's run in the first inning that appeared to be too far inside the baseline.

3:30 PM: Colorado Rockies first baseman Todd Helton is out for the rest of the season as he prepares to undergo surgery to repair a torn labrum in his right hip. But Helton says he plans to play again next season

3:15 PM: Gold medal runner Usain Bolt says that some of the security rules at the London Olympics "don't make any sense to me, personally," such as having to stand in a straight line & not allow skipping ropes to be brought in.

3:00 PM: Algerian runner Taoufik Makhloufi, who was tossed out of the London Olympics when he stopped running in his 800m heat, has been allowed back in.

2:45 PM: Great Britain defeated China 90-58 Monday to get its first Olympic men's basketball win since 1948.

2:30 PM: Wisconsin has unveiled the alternate football uniforms they will be wearing for their Sept. 29 game against Nebraska.

2:15 PM: TBS announced on Monday that it has purchased the Bleacher Report website to become part of its Turner Sports division.

2:00 PM: Bud Riley, a former Oregon State assistant football coach & father of current Beavers head coach Mike Riley, has died at the age of 86.

1:45 PM: The Patriot News reports that former Penn State president Graham Spanier & former athletic director Tim Curley - two figures in the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse scandal - are still being paid by the university.
