Linked In PINK: Healthcare providers team to fight cancer

As a woman, it's essential to stay informed about your health. "Linked In PINK" is a Women's Wellness campaign that brings area healthcare providers together in a joint effort focused on increasing awareness on routine screenings that can assist with the prevention, detection and treatment of women's health issues.

Prowers Medical Center, High Plains Community Health Center, Prowers County Public Health and Environment and Southeast Behavioral Health Group have teamed up and launched their third annual community healthcare partnership with a firm commitment of providing awareness, education and support through a variety of wellness programs geared to empower women to take charge of their health.

Throughout the month of Oct., activities and events are being coordinated to encourage the presence of PINK to demonstrate a unified fight against breast cancer and the sheer determination to confront the many other women's health-related issues. Local businesses are encouraged to support this month long campaign by incorporating the presence of PINK into their monthly promotions, store fronts, or whatever makes sense for your participation in the campaign.

In October, Prowers Medical Center - a "Softer Mammogram Provider" - will be offering preferred digital mammogram schedules allowing for coordination efforts so women can have their Well Woman Exams- including a clinical breast exam and pap smear - at Prowers Medical Group or High Plains Community Health Center and then have their digital mammogram all on the same day.

On Oct. 13 at 9 a.m., community members are invited to meet us at the Enchanted Forest for a group walk. "Linked In PINK", Women Walking Together is an event for the entire family! Community participants are encouraged to wear PINK and demonstrate support of the women in their lives. Healthcare agency staff will be on hand to help schedule your appointment for routine health screenings. Each participant will receive an event goodie bag, healthy snacks, and referrals to the various community resources available.

On Oct. 29 at 5:45 p.m., "Linked In PINK" will host a free Women's Health Night at the Lamar Cultural Events Center. While enjoying simple, nutritious snacks, women will be enlightened by presentations that cover important health and wellness topics specifically for women. Encourage the women in your life to "Take Charge of Their Health" and attend this special event!
