BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - ?
A new study says cancer is now the number one killer of Latinos in the United States.
In an effort to fight that people from CBCC will be in McFarland on Sunday to perform cancer screenings.
The tests will be free and will check for three of the most common cancers.
The program is the brain child of Dr. Alan Cartmell.
He says the biggest reason for the cancer deaths late diagnosis
Doctor Cartmell says the reason Latinos often get a late cancer diagnosis is because they dont have good access to health care.
Breast cancer prostate cancer and colon cancer will all be screened.
Organizers say they are also planning future Latino cancer screenings in Arvin and Lamont.
If you would like to get a free cancer screening at the event you must schedule an appointment.
The event is Sunday Feb. 25 from noon to 5 p.m. at the McFarland Community Building, 103 N. Sherwood Ave.
