Giant heart-shaped artwork glows and pulses when people get close
Looking for something different to do to express your feelings for your significant other this?Valentine's Day? A trip to New York City is always romantic, and now the city itself can show its affection with a new art installation at the Crossroads of the World. The 10-foot-tall sculpture features a giant glowing red heart, and is a collaboration between the?Times Square Alliance and the BIG architecture group.
The sculpture is called BIG?NYC and consists of 400 acrylic tubes lit by LED lights, forming a cube around a big red heart suspended in the center. The whole artwork is equipped with sensors, and when visitors touch it, the heart glows brighter and beats faster with a pulsing light. The acrylic tubes around the heart also reflect and refract the lights of Times Square around it, adding more light and color to the display.
BIG?NYC also takes advantage of?social networking by making it easy for visitors to take photos near the sculpture and then post them to?Facebook ? and doing so will also make a charitable donation to the?Hope and Heroes Children's Cancer Fund. The giant heart will be on display from February 6 through February 29, and is part of an event called "Free Love in Times Square." The event also features vow renewal ceremonies and giveaways and contests from the?BRIDES Love Truck.
