Over a period of twelve years, the Chinese zodiac will have a corresponding animal assigned to each year. There are four trines in which these animals are placed, the first has the donkey, the rat and the dragon, the second has the snake, the rooster and the ox, the third has the dog, the tiger and the horse and the fourth has the sheep, the pig and the rabbit. For the Chinese astrology tiger, the years assigned are 1902, 1914, 1926, 1938, 1950, 1962, 1974, 1986, 1998 and 2010.
There are also elements to which these years also correspond. For instance, the tiger is of the element earth, but there is also fire, water, wood and metal. 1986 is a year connected to fire, so anyone born under that year would be a fire tiger. Elements used in this way are frequent throughout Chinese history and culture.
Those under this sign will also be affected by the attributes associated with the elements. It works similarly to the Western zodiac, different traits are assigned to the animals and elements and these are thought to influence those who are born under it. Tigers are associated with courage, with is then linked with diligence and perseverance.
Obviously, it is a big cat, and those are generally associated with courage. Those under this sign also have vehemence, which can help enhance the bravery, when the tiger is fighting for what they believe in and being committed to it. An incredibly positive trait is self-reliance, as those with this sign will do things their own way.

Our large feline of the Chinese zodiac can be compared, in lots of ways, to the large feline of the Western zodiac. They both are courageous and generous, but tend to be vain and childish when they do not get what they want. These traits apply in day-to-day life, and can appear in many ways.
